The Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) proudly announces that Mrs. Jacqueline Mugo, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, has been unanimously elected as the first African female President of the International Organisation of Employers (IOE). This historic election took place during the General Assembly on June 2, 2024, in Geneva, Switzerland. Mrs. Mugo will serve a three-year term as the leader of the 155-member organization, the world’s largest business network.

In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Mugo expressed deep gratitude and shared her vision for the future of the IOE.

"I have witnessed and actively participated in the remarkable evolution of the IOE; together, we have steadfastly upheld the principles and resilience of employers worldwide," she said.

She emphasized the collaborative spirit and resilience that have defined her long-standing relationship with the IOE.

"Our journey of collaboration, resilience, and unwavering commitment has been a source of immense encouragement for me. Together, we have successfully navigated through unprecedented times.”

Mrs. Mugo, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a seasoned Industrial Relations practitioner brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She is a Titular member of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Secretary-General of BUSINESSAfrica Employers Confederation, and a former Vice President for Africa of the IOE. Her extensive contributions to global employment policy, including her roles at the International Labour Conference and various board-level positions, have earned her numerous Presidential and international awards and recognition, underscoring her dedication to advancing employer interests worldwide.

Mrs. Mugo succeeds Ms. Michele Parmelee, who led the IOE for the past four years. During her tenure, Ms. Parmelee significantly advanced the IOE's gender and just transition policy agenda, leaving a strong foundation for the new leadership. IOE members expressed deep appreciation for her many significant achievements.

The Federation of Kenya Employers congratulates Mrs. Jacqueline Mugo on her new role at the International Organisation of Employers. Her election is a testament to her outstanding leadership and dedication to the world of work, and we are confident that she will continue to champion the interests of employers globally in her new role.
