The Federation of Kenyan Employers (FKE) Celebrates the Launch of the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy Framework in Kenya, marking a significant stride in enhancing skills development, lifelong learning, and the adoption of global best practices. This policy was officially unveiled today at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

During the launch, Ms.Jacqueline Mugo, EBS, Executive Director & CEO of FKE, articulated the Federation's endorsement of RPL, highlighting its substantial contribution to the eliminating skills gaps which employers experience currently. She acknowledged the existence of individuals who have gained skills through informal and non-formal means, emphasizing that RPL facilitates the validation and certification of these skills, thereby enabling benefits such as formal employment entry, career advancement, formal education access, and a competitive edge in entrepreneurship.

She also acknowledged the role that employers play and will continue to play in capacity development of the workforce through on the job training, mentorship, apprenticeships and coaching. Ms. Mugo reaffirmed FKE's commitment to supporting RPL implementation by:

1. Raising awareness among employers about RPL and its advantages, in collaboration with the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) and other pivotal stakeholders.

 2. Motivating employers to employ skilled workers certified through RPL, addressing the skill gaps in their organizations.

3. Encouraging employers to have their workers with uncertified skills assessed and certified.

 4. Collaborating with stakeholders to establish and uphold quality standards, ensuring a reliable benchmark for employers.

5. Advocating for entrepreneurship among RPL-certified individuals, especially in scenarios where formal employment is scarce.

The event also served as a platform to celebrate and award certificates to graduates of the pilot phase, symbolizing the tangible outcomes of the RPL initiative.
