The Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) recently participated in the ARLAC Tripartite Workshop on Comprehensive and Sustainable Social Protection for All, held between July 22-26, 2024, in Harare, Zimbabwe. This workshop aimed to improve the capacity of African nations to develop and execute effective social protection policies and strategies.

The ARLAC workshop brought together representatives from eleven member countries, including Botswana, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe. The training addressed the urgent need for comprehensive social protection systems to combat poverty and adapt to evolving economic and demographic challenges. The objectives were to:

 

  1. Increase understanding of social protection as a tool to reduce poverty.
  2. Explore challenges posed by demographic and economic changes to social security schemes.
  3. Analyze best practices and international guidelines for social security systems.
  4. Enhance knowledge on governance, design, reforms, and administration of social security institutions.
