On 11th April 2024, Ms. Jacqueline Mugo, Executive Director & CEO FKE had the honoursof attending the launch of the ACCEL Africa Project at Radisson Blu Hotel Nairobi. The objective of the project is to accelerate the elimination of child labour in supply chains across Africa.
The event was graced by Hon. Florence Bore, CS Labour & Social Protection, as the chief guest and other distinguished guests including H.E. Dr Erick Mutai, Governor Kericho County, H.E. Simba Arati, Governor Kisii County Amb. Maarten Brouwer, Kingdom of Netherlands to Kenya, Ms. Caroline Mugalla, ILO Country Office Director and Hellen Opiyo, Commissioner for Labour among others. In her remarks, Ms Mugo urged the government to implement comprehensive policies to eradicate child labour. “We must enhance supply chain transparency and accountability, maintaining ethical standards at every stage. Educating employers and workers about their rights empowers them to fight exploitation” she said.
Hon. Florence Bore reiterated the Ministry's commitment to eliminating child labour in the supply chains of coffee and tea. Together, with stakeholders, FKE is dedicated to creating a future where every Kenyan child can learn, grow, and thrive in a safe environment.
